The Golden PerchThe Golden Perch

Varca, South Goa

A quiet stretch, not the busy one

We’re in a walled residential complex, four minutes on foot from the beach, surrounded by other homes rather than nightclubs. This isn’t a launchpad for touring the rest of Goa — most guests who love it here are happy to stay on this one coastline for the whole trip. Restaurants, a grocery store, and friendly neighbours have most of what you’ll need — anything else, ask us. (More photos of the area are on their way here soon.)

The beachWide sand, a gentle tide, and rarely a crowd.

Varca beach doesn’t fill up the way the ones further north do — wide sand, a gentle tide, and rarely a crowd. Live by the coast long enough and you start recognising everyone: it’s where guests catch up, take long walks, and occasionally compare notes on which shack does the best fish curry.

The complex around usA gated, residential neighbourhood — plus a shared pool, tennis court and balcony.

We’re inside a gated residential complex, quiet in the way a real neighbourhood is quiet — dogs, palm trees, the occasional scooter. It also has its own shared pool and tennis court.

The swimming pool

The residential complex’s shared pool is open 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Access is ₹100 per person, per day.

The balcony

Shared between the two rooms on the first floor. Book the whole floor, or the whole villa, and it’s entirely yours.

The kitchen

Right outside the rooms, shared by the two sets of travellers on the first floor — again, yours alone if you book the whole floor. It runs on a bit of a “pay-it-forward” model: guests tend to leave things behind for whoever comes next. It’s got a double induction, microwave, air fryer, toaster, mixer, chimney, fridge, water purifier, and a washing machine — everything you need to cook and eat.

Everyday meals

For your day-to-day meals, walk to the Varca food point, about 350 metres away. It serves South Indian food in the morning and a homely thali (plus other meals) for lunch and dinner — good ingredients, and food you can eat regularly without getting tired of it.

Groceries & utilitiesA shop right outside the complex, plus vegetables, a clinic, and home delivery.

Daily groceries

There’s a grocery shop right outside the complex that covers most of what you’d need day to day:

  • Food: milk, biscuits, bread, namkeen, packed snacks, dairy, lentils, rice and other everyday eatables.
  • Hygiene & medical: feminine hygiene products, Dettol, hand wash, condoms, nail cutters, and the like.
  • Stationery: pens, pencils, tape.
